When you need a break from the sand and sun, there are plenty of mother-daughter activities to enjoy together. Go for a stroll at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, where blooming azaleas and towering oaks offer a magical escape.
The gardens offer visitors a peaceful stroll along winding reflection ponds sheltered by a picturesque oak hammock. Washington Oaks is also famous for its unique shoreline of coquina rock formations along the Atlantic beach. This ancient rock formation creates the perfect spot for beachcombing, tidal pool exploring and photography.
The rose garden at Washington Oaks Gardens State Park sits at the western edge of the formal gardens and is one of our most popular points of interest in the park. It is designed as a grand circle of 3,000 square feet with ten beds of roses, each containing a unique variety of rose.
The ten beds of roses form concentric rings reaching a common center laid out in a red brick sunburst pattern. It is the largest public rose garden along the Florida coast, with an average of 150 rose bushes blooming.
Visitors can picnic and fish from either the beach or the seawall along the Matanzas River on the park's west boundary.
A number of short trails are perfect for hiking and bicycling, and a visitor center offers opportunities for learning about the park's natural and cultural resources.
